The advent of the Indian Women’s League (IWL) and the popularity of the sport amongst girls in the city has generated a lot of interest for the creation of a FC Mangalore Women’s Team. After several Management level meetings to brainstorm the possibility of the same, plans had to be be abruptly put on hold courtesy of the ongoing pandemic.
The club had already laid the groundwork in the grassroots front, introducing Women’s Teams in the various age-groups in two major co-ed schools in Mangalore city – The Yenepoya School and The Manipal School – with a vision of creating a organic player pathway from the school to the youth and senior levels.
Technical Director Biby Thomas, a fierce advocate for Women’s Sports, made his views clear in a club statement
“FC Mangalore has always been at the forefront of grassroots football and we had been very active in all of our affiliate schools to promote Women’s football. It’s only a matter of time before we will be successful in launching a women’s team which will be comprised of 100% home grown talents from in and around the city”

Needless to say, the schools too have been very proactive in supporting the cause
“Our ongoing association with FC Mangalore has been very beneficial for our school teams and many of our girls want to pursue a future in this game that they are so passionate about”, said Ms. Parvathi K, Physical Education Teacher at The Manipal School, “It’s been a very difficult year with the pandemic but I am sure that we will bounce back stronger than before and the children can’t wait to be back playing competitive football again” she concuded.
